Lake Salagou is located in Occitanie, in the Hérault department, on the Salagou River, about 50 kilometers from Montpellier, Béziers, Agde, and Sète. It is bordered by Clermont-l’Hérault, Liausson, Octon, and Celles, has a depth of 50 meters, and covers an area of 7 km². The site, formed by the erosion of a Paleozoic massif, is dominated by plateaus and hills. As you walk around Lake Salagou, you’ll see its red soil, known as “ruffe,” as well as basaltic chimneys resulting from a period of effusive volcanism.
