Making a wild basket in Yvelines (78)

Activity description :

Just a few kilometers from Paris, Bohémond welcomes you for a full day of basket-making. In a friendly atmosphere, you'll first head off into the forest to discover wild plants used for basketry, and then create a basket with your host's invaluable advice.

Course of the activity (7h):

• Morning: discovery of wild basketry plants: from bramble to clematis, including the queen of French basketry, willow.
• Recognize and harvest plants according to their seasonality.
• Return to the workshop.
• Afternoon: basket-making:
  • Making the ribs, cooking and peeling clematis, designing the hoops.
  • Making the basket skeleton from clematis
  • Binding the skeleton with willow splints
  • Double braiding
  • Fencing the basket
• Each participant leaves with his or her own creation.
