Activity description :
- 2 days
- One person
- From 16 years old
During this two-day blacksmithing workshop with Nicolas, forge your own “flat-soled” knife: a blade and handle made from a single piece of steel, fitted with riveted wooden scales. This is how knives built to last are made: maximum durability, perfect balance. The workshop’s most comprehensive course, from raw steel bar to finished knife!
Schedule for the two days:
- Welcome and safety briefing: coffee, introduction to the workshop, protective gear, and safety instructions.
- Blade forging: at the forge and anvil, you’ll heat the steel and shape the blade with a hammer (tip, cutting edge, thickness).
- Forging the tang: You’ll stretch and shape the tang—the steel handle that extends the blade as a single piece.
- Heat treatments: normalizing, oil quenching, and tempering to give the blade its hardness and strength.
- Grinding: You create the bevel on the cutting edge—the profile that will allow your blade to cut.
- Handle assembly: selecting the wood, fitting and riveting the scales, then shaping the handle until it fits perfectly in the hand.
- Finishing and sharpening: sanding, protecting the wood and steel, and final sharpening.
Two days—that’s how long it takes to do it right, without rushing: learn, try again, understand. Nicolas guides you through every step. Leave with your own complete knife, forged and assembled by you: the kind of object you’ll keep for a lifetime!
