Activity description :

  1. All day
  2. Up to 2 people
  3. From 8 years old

During this blacksmithing workshop with Nicolas, forge the famous “shrimp” knife: a medieval knife crafted from a single piece of steel, from the blade to the handle’s scroll. A genuine forged knife, not a souvenir from a shop: each piece is one-of-a-kind!

Schedule for the day:

  • Welcome and safety briefing: coffee, tour of the workshop, protective gear, and safety instructions.
  • Forging the blade: at the forge and on the anvil, you’ll heat the steel and shape the blade with a hammer (tip, cutting edge, tang).
  • Handle coil: You’ll stretch the handle and then hammer it into a spiral—the famous “shrimp tail .”
  • Grinding: You create the bevel on the cutting edge—the profile that will enable your blade to cut.
  • Heat treatments: normalizing, oil quenching, and tempering, to give the blade its hardness and strength.
  • Finishing and sharpening: brushing, metal protection, and final sharpening, while preserving the raw, forged character.

Nicolas guides you step by step, from the first hammer strike to the final pass on the whetstone. Leave with your own shrimp knife— forged and hardened by you—an object that truly cuts and tells the story of your day!
