Activity description :

  2. Up to 2 people
  3. From 8 years old

During this introductory blacksmithing workshop with Nicolas, you’ll leave with your own handmade bottle opener—the first object you’ll have crafted from metal and wood. Its head is forged from steel and extends into a tang onto which a riveted wooden handle is attached. A seemingly simple object that brings together two complementary crafts!

Workshop Schedule:

  • Welcome and safety briefing: coffee, workshop overview, protective gear, and safety instructions.
  • Heating and shaping: At the forge and anvil, you’ll learn to heat the steel to the right red-hot temperature and shape it with a hammer—the fundamental technique of all blacksmithing.
  • Shaping the head: You’ll shape the head of the bottle opener, including the prong that grips the cap and the hole.
  • Riveting the handle: You’ll prepare the tang, drill holes, and then rivet two wooden plates on either side, just as you would assemble a knife handle.
  • Shaping and Finishing: You’ll sand and round off the handle until it fits comfortably in your hand, then protect the wood and steel.

Nicolas guides you step by step, from the first hammer strike to sanding the wood, and he’s there to help you out if you run into trouble. Walk away with your bottle opener—with a forged head and a riveted wooden handle—an ideal workshop for first-timers!
