Located in Occitanie between the Causse Méjan and the Causse de Sauveterre, the Tarn Gorges are one of the highest canyons in the region. They are mainly located in the Lozère department, with a small portion in the Aveyron. Thanks to the river (the Tarn) and the surrounding cliffs, there are plenty of activities to enjoy here. We’ve selected a few for you!
Do you enjoy active summer activities? You’re sure to love canyoning! Ideal for group outings, canyoning involves a challenging water hike through whitewater, where you’ll navigate natural obstacles in various ways—abseiling, sliding down water slides, jumping—all while fully equipped and supervised by a professional guide! In and around the Tarn Gorges, there are numerous canyoning spots: the Pas de Souci ravine (Massegros), the Haute Dourbie Canyon, the dry Montbrun Canyon, and the Tapoul Gorges, a little further away in the Cévennes.
Experience an extraordinary and adrenaline-pumping adventure with a bungee jump at one of the most magnificent and highest spots in France! Perfect for a bachelor or bachelorette party, the concept of bungee jumping is simple: you’re attached by your feet to a giant bungee cord, and the goal is to jump into the void until the cord catches you, sending you bouncing through the air. The thrills during freefall are incredible! But before you jump, be sure to take a moment to admire the breathtaking view of the natural landscape of the Tarn Gorges.
For a nature adventure and climbing experience suitable for all skill levels, set out to exploreone of the region’s most beautiful via ferratas, located in Mostuéjouls/Liaucous. A via ferrata is a secure, challenging route that allows you to climb rock faces using special fixtures and appropriate equipment. You’ll enjoy exceptional panoramic views and a 100% natural setting. Bonus: a zip line, a rope bridge, and other fun sections await you!
Canoeing and kayaking—a summer classic when you’re near a river! Accessible to everyone and as fun as it is rejuvenating, canoeing in the Tarn Gorges promises breathtaking scenery, some lively stretches and others more peaceful, and above all, a unique connection with nature and your loved ones. Several routes are available:
Starting from the edge of the Causse, you’ll take off for a pleasant paragliding flight filled with beautiful scenery! Accompanied by a certified instructor with many years of experience in free flight, your 10-, 20-, or 30-minute introductory flight will let you discover spots like the Ispagnac Valley or the village of Quézac, located right in the heart of the Tarn Gorges. An unforgettable experience to try at least once in your life!
