Get a firsthand look at the daily life of a beekeeper during a full day of immersion at a beekeeping operation in Haute-Garonne. Accompanied by Delphine, a passionate beekeeper, discover the secrets of bee life, how to manage an apiary, and the different stages of the beekeeping profession. Combining theoretical lessons, hands-on fieldwork, and tastings, this authentic experience will give you an insider’s understanding of how a colony functions and the challenges facing beekeeping today.

Activity Schedule:

• Welcome at the apiary and overview of the day’s program.
• In-depth exploration of honeybee biology: the social organization of the colony, and the roles of the queen, worker bees, and drones.
• Understanding the life cycles of bees, nectar-flow periods, and environmental challenges related to colony conservation.
• Introduction to managing an apiary: monitoring hive health and learning about the different stages of a beekeeper’s work.
• Lunch break before continuing the experience at the apiary (please bring your own picnic).
• Put on a protective bee jacket and learn about beekeeping equipment (smoker, frame lifter, etc.).
• Open several hives alongside the beekeeper to observe the colonies’ activity.
• Learn technical skills: assessing a colony’s health, locating the queen, inspecting the brood, and understanding how to manage the super frames.
• Guided tasting of different varieties of honey and an introduction to apitherapy products.
