Workshop on creating a pair of polished glass jewelry pieces in Paris's 2nd arrondissement

Join Kimiko to create the jewelry set of your dreams using polished glass. Polished glass is a piece of glass that the sea has smoothed over the years, rounding its edges and softening its surface. Each piece is unique, and no two are alike.

In this workshop, you’ll choose two pieces of glass and learn how to set them with metal wire—no glue or solder required: the glass is held in place solely by the tension of the wire, which is twisted and knotted by hand. You’ll leave with two matching pieces of jewelry— a pendant and a ring—that you’ve made yourself and can wear right away.

Activity Schedule (2 hours):

• Welcome and introduction over a hot drink: an overview of the polished glass, its origin, and the types of jewelry you can create. You’ll see finished pieces to help guide your choices.
• Choose your materials from the collection: bottle green, amber, milky white, turquoise, and sometimes cobalt. Then select your wire—gold-plated brass, copper, or silver-plated, depending on the shade you choose.
• Demonstration and practice on a scrap piece of wire: the loop, the spiral, the twist, and the locking knot. You’ll handle the pliers before working with your gemstones.
• Creating the pendant: You’ll set your first glass piece, form the bail, and adjust the wire tension; then, creating the ring: measuring your finger size, assembling the band, and setting the second glass piece in a matching or contrasting shade.
• Finishing touches: deburring, polishing the wire, and attaching the chain.
