Activity description :

Apolline offers a bookbinding workshop in Paris at her studio in the 19th arrondissement. During this activity, you can learn the basics of bookbinding by following her instructions and advice.

What is bookbinding? It's a technique that simply consists of binding several sheets of a book together, potentially folded into a booklet.

Japanese binding and linocut printing workshop (4h - minimum age 8) :

  • Creation of an A5 notebook: original Japanese binding. The cover in colored or patterned paper will then be decorated with a linocut print of your own making.
  • Assemble the leaves of your notebook using a Japanese binding you've invented using the examples provided.
  • Engrave a motif or design of your choice on a lino plate. Using various tools (gouges, cutters, etc.).
  • Print the design on your notebook: practice inking on draft paper before you start printing the final design on your notebook!
  • At the end of the workshop, you'll leave with your personalized notebook, as well as the engraving matrix so you can print again at home.

No special knowledge of bookbinding is required to take part in this workshop. The workshop is limited to 4 people, so Apolline can easily guide you along the way. A great gift idea!

4 hours to discover two "arts" and two techniques, accompanied step by step by Apolline. Really great, and rewarding as you go home with the fruit of your efforts! I'd recommend it to anyone who's a little afraid to take the plunge!

Apolline led a full 4-hour workshop, which was very interesting and instructive. We left with our notebooks, linocuts and prints. I've got lots of ideas and can't wait to apply what we've learned! I had a great afternoon, thanks to her!

A workshop that combines 2 superb techniques: Japanese bookbinding and linocut, I guarantee you'll be happy to leave with your magnificent creation! Very clear explanations, good materials and the freedom to create! I did this workshop with my 2 11-year-old daughters, and they loved it as much as I did! Thanks to Appoline.
