Accessible from the age of 16, the coastal license is the first level for piloting a motorboat at sea. It allows you to sail up to 6 nautical miles from a shelter (around 11 km), day or night, with no engine power limitation. This permit also gives you access to certain inland lakes.

Compulsory for all motorboats over 6 hp, it's ideal for beginners, boat owners and anyone who wants to enjoy water sports in complete freedom.

How does it work?

Training takes place in two stages: theory and practice, with personalized support from approved trainers and unlimited access to an e-learning platform to train at your own pace.

Sessions:

Theory: classroom lessons with a certified instructor(5h minimum), digital book included, intensive training with MCQs similar to the official exam.
Theory exam: MCQ of 40 questions, 5 errors maximum, without appointment at an approved center (fee: €30).
Practical: 2h of navigation at the helm with an instructor, continuous assessment without separate final test.

Included: unlimited access to the e-learning platform, courses, MCQs, personalized follow-up.

Optional:

Le + réussite: additional day to reinforce your theoretical knowledge.

Know before you go

To book, choose a default date in the month of your choice in the calendar, then once your booking has been confirmed, contact the partner to arrange the precise date of your training course. Maximum delay: 1 year.

The forms to fill in and send to the "Boat Academy Lyon" center to validate your registration:

Registration form: basic option for pleasure boat driving license.
Medical certificate: "Certificat d'aptitude physique des candidats au titre de conduite des bateaux de plaisance à moteur".

Coastal license application :

2 recent passport photos (1 if you hold a river license)
Photocopy of both sides of your identity card or passport
A €78 tax stamp if you do not hold a river permit
A valid medical certificate less than 6 months old
A copy of your river license (the original must be handed in at the entrance to the examination room).
30€ to be paid directly to the test center
