Located just 25 minutes from Clermont-Ferrand, the superb château-fortress of Saint-Saturnin was built in XIIIᵉ century by the de la Tour d'Auvergne family. Its successive enlargements and embellishments now make it a must-seemonument in the Region, opening onto the charming village of Saint Saturnin.

The building is beautiful and imposing. The rooms are authentically furnished. The big drawback was the uninteresting commentary, in a weak, very fast voice, consisting mainly of riddles and long silences, no doubt to keep us going for just 40 minutes. We came away disappointed, because this castle is full of history, and we weren't interested in it.

Beautiful château, friendly guides. Little furniture, contrary to what I had read. Strange mystery about the new owners. Annoying when the tour is in both French and English, when the royal salon is reserved for weddings, and when Margot's room is being renovated. The garden can be seen from a distance, and I suppose there's nothing to see. Cher.

Disappointed... We saw far too few rooms, and the guide didn't seem very enthusiastic. It's a pity, as this château seems worth a visit...

In a "royal" château, one might have hoped for a more detailed history of the visit of such figures as Catherine de Médicis and Marguerite de Valois. However, this was only briefly done, and the reason for "Queen Margot's" exile to Usson (a few dozen kilometers away) was all but forgotten. In addition, the discovery of medieval military art, the basics of which are well known to all, was practically reduced to the exterior observation of crenellations and machicolations, with the precision that they had become secondary with the modernization of the artillery, now installed on terraces. Only a visit to the kitchen (reconstructed with collections of cooking utensils and utensils) provided us with some insights we hadn't had before. In the end, the information gathered during this visit - which we found disappointing - did not live up to our expectations. Admittedly, the visit was scheduled to last an hour. Last but not least, the château, now privately owned and devoted to quality guest rooms and special events, now only has a few rooms open to the public, which obviously limits the possibilities for discovery.

The château's history is not sufficiently developed, revolving mainly around Catherine de Médicis, and too few rooms are open to visitors.

The tour was supposed to last 50 minutes, but started at 2.05pm (2 latecomers) and ended at 2.45pm! It's true that there weren't many of us; what's more, at the end of the visit, no questions were asked of the friendly young guide. Very vast, well-maintained exterior, which should be redesigned (formal gardens). It's a pity, however, that we can't house the ramparts!

Nice visit. The exteriors are amazing, but access to the castle rooms is limited. The guides are very friendly. A must for the whole family.

Nice visit, some remarkable rooms, and the roof structure is well worth a visit. The explanations were clear. I'd recommend the tour to anyone passing by.
