In a space where living materials meet the slow rhythm of the hand, this workshop invites you to explore basket weaving by creating a rattan mirror. Here, time slows down and your hands take over from your mind: you discover, you try, you adjust, until you witness the birth of a unique piece shaped by the rhythm of the weaving. You’ll be guided step by step in understanding the material and the essential techniques for crafting a woven object.
Workshop Schedule (4 hours):
- Introduction to rattan, its properties, and the basic tools used in basketry
- Preparing and softening the strands to make weaving easier
- Introduction to the fundamentaltechniques of weaving
- Gradual construction of the piece, learning to maintain tension and consistency
- Guidance throughout the process to understand the techniques and correct steps as needed
You’ll leave with a rattan mirror you made entirely by hand, as well as the technical foundations needed to continue practicing basketry on your own. A hands-on craft experience focused on learning the techniques and creating a durable object.
