A farm visit with lots of different workshops!

Farm visits are an excellent opportunity to introduce your children to a wide range of activities. Whether you're visiting an educational farm, an animal farm, a family farm or an ecological farm, you'll have access to a variety of educational activities.

Planting workshop

First of all, children will discover vegetables in the field, accompanied by one of the farm's farmers. Your children will then be introduced to the natural cycles of gardening.

They'll learn the right gestures, and how plants and insects interact. Afterwards, they'll be able to plant organic vegetables and herbs in pots or in the ground. Of course, children can take their plants and seedlings home with them.

Animal care workshop: sheep shearing, wool, milking cows and goats

For the little ones (and the big ones too!), a visit to the farm means discovering the animals that live there. You can show them all the animals:

  • Sheep : ewes, sheep and lambs;
  • Goats: dairy and non-dairy goats, billy goats and kids;
  • Poultry: laying hens and chickens of all breeds, geese, peacocks and ducks;
  • Pigs: pigs, sows and pigs;
  • Cattle: dairy and beef cows, calves and bulls;
  • Equines: donkeys, donkeys, ponies, horses, mares and foals.
  • Some farms also keep other animals such as rabbits or alpacas.

Depending on the farm, a variety of activities will be on offer. You can watch a sheep being sheared, or the farm animals being fed. Milking cows and goats are also common activities. On some farms, your children can even feed the animals.

Food workshops: making butter, bread and apple juice

Cheese-making and dairy product workshops are held on dairy farms. They also offer cheese for sale. Depending on your region, you'll be making Abondance, Camembert, Bleu or Brie cheeses.

Bread-making and madeleine-making workshops will teach you the secrets of making these products.

A new concept has recently emerged: the farm inn. This is a small farm where you can stay and eat. You can also enjoy product tasting workshops.

Themed workshops: Christmas, Easter and Halloween

For special occasions, some farms offer themed workshops.

Les Fermes de Gally, for example, organizes events all year round:

  • For Easter: take your children on a giant egg hunt;
  • At Halloween: they can carve their own farm pumpkin!
  • At Christmas: bread-making and natural wax candle-making workshops, a maze chase and lots more!
