Activity description :
- 3 hours
- Up to 4 people
- From 14 years old
Come and try your hand at tufting, a discipline that lets you create rugs using a wool gun! Bring your ideas and creativity and create a 100% personalized rug!
In thecreative workshop, you'll also find materials and accessories to create a personalized tufted bag or mirror. These creations are available on site at an additional cost.
Workshop schedule (3h) :
- Introduction to the techniques you'll be using.
- Learn how to use the tufting gun: Siyi and her team will show you how to use it according to the design you want to create. Beware, tufting is a fairly physical activity (the tufting gun is a machine that weighs 1.4 kg).
- Draw the selected motif on canvas and choose wools and colors.
- Create your own design.
- Finishing: cutting, gluing the canvas strip, shaving. Siyi and her team take care of the last part of your rug.
If you're a beginner, prepare a design that's not too complicated! If you don't have any ideas, Siyi and her team can also suggest some on the spot.
Two frame sizes are available:
- 40 cm x 40 cm frame (actual size of finished mat is approx. 35 × 35 cm): 3 hours
- 80 cm x 80 cm frame (actual size of finished rug is approx. 73 × 73 cm): 6 hours
If you finish your rug 30 minutes before the end of the workshop, you can leave with it; otherwise, unfortunately, you'll have to pick it up another day.
This workshop is ideal for learning a new discipline and giving free rein to your creativity. It's also a great gift idea for a DIY fan!

Electricity problem on site ... The workshop was cancelled at the last minute. Too bad

I was well accompanied during the workshop. However, when I picked up my carpet after the final shearing, the center looked good but the pile seemed to have been cut too much around the edges. It looked fine before shearing. The final result is therefore unsatisfactory. I was not offered the option of recutting the carpet to hide the less attractive areas. I'll do it myself. I have mixed feelings

Quite disappointed with this workshop. First of all, the timetable wasn't respected. We had to wait for 2 people who were more there to talk to each other than to do a workshop, so I had to wait more than half an hour to get the explanations at the same time as them. Then we were shown how to do it, and there was no one left... if we had a question, we'd have had to stop everything and go upstairs to find someone to help us. And finally, no one took the time to show me the finishing touches - it was really rushed! The young lady who "ran" the workshop was nice, but I wouldn't recommend it at all - too many shortcomings.

The staff are friendly but we had conflicting instructions depending on who was coming down to see us - once instructions are given there is almost no follow up from the staff - the girls go back upstairs to chat amongst themselves. The square of carpet was not the size indicated in the advert - no help to hold the threads - no help to re-tension the canvas - the tufting area is not very welcoming but the girls are very nice but don't do the job to the end - shame!

The workshop is well located and the setting is rather pretty, but I was disappointed by the general atmosphere. For a workshop where learning and sharing are supposed to be at the heart, the advice was pretty rough. If you really want to learn tufting for personal use, you'll have to pass, as I sensed a lot of amateurism in the transmission and execution of the finishing touches. On the other hand, if you're simply looking for a new activity with friends, go for it! Relegated to the basement in semi-autonomy, I found a lack of conviviality. Just remember to offer a cup of tea or coffee in this type of workshop, it can change the perception and break the ice they didn't set out to break.

Fun activity and atmosphere. But really too much extra to pay

Would need an upstream brief to say that you have to come with a model

I find it expensive for what it is, there is no real teacher, the person shows us quickly how to proceed at the beginning and then leaves so we spend 3 hours alone, it surprised me ...! I also found that even if the choice was wide, there was a lack of colors that were perhaps less expected and less classic. I was also very surprised that when we arrived, we had to find a model to project onto the canvas and transfer it. Nothing was explained to us beforehand, so we came with our hands in our pockets, which was a shame... if we'd known, we'd have come with a drawing already done, so as not to waste time. Also, the gluing and folding of the fabric for the final carpet was done by the ladies in the workshop, with no explanation. They suggested we go and have a snack while we waited, and it was a shame not to learn from them. All in all, I find it far too expensive for what it is, and personally not creative enough.

Very good for the tufting part (clear explanations, space in the workshop, good choice of colors). However, we don't see the finishing touches and I don't think they're done very well. It seems to me that you should wait for the vinyl glue to dry before applying the lining (and pick up your carpet another day)... the glue pierces the fabric lining at the back of the carpet. What's more, I was told to dry the carpet flat overnight, but I wasn't told to dry it upside down. The glue that pierced the fabric even damaged the parquet.

We were able to do the activity as a couple, as no one was with us during the 3-hour activity. On the other hand, once the carpet has been tufted, we're not the ones gluing the back of the carpet to cut it out and do the finishing touches. Everything is done by the workshop. In the end, we didn't shear the carpet ourselves, even though this is a satisfactory part of the job, and we didn't touch up the threads that got mixed up during the tufting with pliers, or the reliefs with scissors... we had to finish everything at home to get a good result. Another big drawback is that the wool wasn't wound in advance, so the thread just comes out of the gun throughout the session. What's more, the canvas isn't taut enough because there aren't enough nails on the frame, so we added some ourselves with a hammer that was lying around the workshop... a lot of things to review, even if despite everything I had a good time and will keep a good memory.

A fun activity to discover, but too little advice on rug design at the outset, and I would have liked to be able to finish my rug myself (glue, clippers, etc.).
