Where to go canyoning around Annecy? Our selection of the most beautiful canyons

If you're a lover of extreme sports and wide open spaces, try canyoning, an activity that will give you intense, unforgettable sensations. Here's our selection of the finest canyons to descend in Annecy.

Canyon d'Angon, the benchmark

A classic right next to Lake Annecy. Situated on the shores of the lake, the Angon canyon has two courses, one easily accessible for beginners, the other for the more resourceful.

For novices, you can familiarize yourself with canyoning and its technical terms, by means of small jumps, abseils and a few slides.

For connoisseurs, the descent begins with the 40-metre-high Cascade d'Angon (a well-known tourist attraction with its belvedere)!

A vertiginous abseil will please the most athletic, before a second, shorter abseil (just 18 metres) takes you to the famous mailbox passage, a siphon slide as surprising as it is original for its width.

You'll finish with a superb panorama of Lake Annecy.

Canyon de Montmin

Also close to Lake Annecy, the Montmin canyon in Vesonne is one of the region's must-sees. After a short walk through the forest, a 1 km descent awaits you.

It's a descent punctuated by two abseils, numerous jumps and slides, but they're not very technical, so they're easy to negotiate if you're a first-time canyoneer.

The jumps are no more than 3 or 4 metres high, except for the last, which is 7 metres. The slides are naturally carved into the limestone and offer unique sliding sensations!

A fun-filled canyon in the Savoie region, where you'll have a great time with family and friends. Suitable for teenagers aged 14 and over, the course is reserved for sports enthusiasts.

Canyon de la Mine

Also located in the Bauges massif south of Doussard, this sporty canyon offers an unforgettable adventure. Leaving from Lathuile, in an area little frequented by tourists, prepare yourself for a rather sporty hike in a corridor carved out of the limestone.

For 4 hours, you'll be hanging from your rope as you pass from waterfall to waterfall (some of them 40 meters high). So if you like impressive descents, you've come to the right place!

Canyon du Pont du Diable

Nestled in the Bauges massif, the narrow, crowded Pont du Diable canyon lives up to its name! The vertical walls can reach heights of over 50 metres, so you're in for some vertiginous jumps (not compulsory)!

Although not very long, this aquatic hike in the heart of an extraordinary setting is impressive and guaranteed to thrill.

Departing from Bellecombe-en-Bauges, between Annecy and Aix-les-Bains, the route starts out rather quietly, with small obstacles, before entering a superb gorge, where long swims, abseils and other slides await you.

Beware: in spring, melting snow can cause the water level to rise (a lot), making the descent all the more sporting! A word to the wise.

Canyon de Seythenex

A miniature canyon specially adapted to children and those who want to discover canyoning in a relaxed way.

Small waterfalls, abseils of up to 11 meters, 6-meter natural slides and potholes will accompany you throughout your aquatic trek.

So you've got everything you need to have a great time, with plenty of fun and thrills, surrounded by family and friends for a simple weekend outing, or for an EVG or EVJF in Annecy.
