Flight simulator: everything you need to know about this activity

Who hasn't dreamed of becoming a fighter or airline pilot? Pretend you're Tom Cruise in the cockpit of the film Top Gun, or take off in a Boeing, Airbus A320 or fighter jet from Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport?

Become a long-haul captain for a day, thanks to our flight simulators, and enjoy a unique experience close to real-life conditions.

What is a flight simulator?

A flight simulator gives you the opportunity to artificially experience the conditions of a real airplane flight. While this activity is useful for training pilots, it has also become a fun activity for the general public. Individuals can enter the reproduction cockpit accompanied by a professional instructor.

This activity is available all over France, in Paris and Lyon for example. It's a great gift idea. Each center will offer you the chance to take the controls in a reproduction cockpit.

The different types of flight simulators

There are different types of flight simulator, depending on the type of aircraft you want to fly. However, there are 3 main categories.

Airliner simulators

Here you take your place in a replica of an Airbus A320 or Boeing airliner, depending on the center where you'll be flying.

The cockpit is a faithful reproduction of the aircraft, totally enclosed, with 180° photo-realistic visualization for a totally immersive experience.

Fighter plane simulators

These simulators reproduce the most famous fighter jets, such as the F-16 Fighting Falcon or the F-35 Lightning II.

Here you'll have the chance to don a fighter jet helmet and carry out perilous missions: terrain reconnaissance, formation flying, aerial combat. You'll think you're in Top Gun!

Helicopter simulators

You can try your hand at flying aboard a replica of theBell 206 helicopter, which is widely used by police forces in Anglo-Saxon countries.

Here you can carry out helicopter missions such as rescue or overflight.

Introduction to flying an airliner, fighter or helicopter

Accompanied by a co-pilot instructor, you'll study your flight plan, weather conditions and receive your take-off briefing.

After receiving the go-ahead from the control tower, you'll take to the skies for the thrills of this immersive simulation game.

The professional instructor guide will take you through the main piloting techniques: take-off, landing and flying at altitude. You'll also learn how to handle stressful events such as air density, turbulence, wind, clouds and thunderstorms.

During this flying experience, several family members can accompany you in the simulator, with no age limit, to experience your first steps as a pilot.

Anti-phobia course to overcome fear of flying

When the fear of flying takes hold, it's hard to overcome. Offered by Air France, Full Flight or Aviasim, anti-stress courses are punctuated by meetings with psychologists and aviation professionals.

During these discussions, participants can explain the origin of their emotions. To reassure them, explaining the different stages of a flight can be useful.

A flight simulation is included in this course. This session puts the passenger in the pilot's shoes. By confronting them with complex situations such as damage and turbulence, they'll need to find solutions quickly.

By discovering that it's easy to find the means to react, fears fade away. It will be easier to take the plane without feeling anxious.

Vacation courses for children

Aviasim offers vacation courses for teenage aviation enthusiasts, enabling them to take control of a plane. Over a 3-day period, children take part in a series of theoretical courses on piloting (generalities, markings, meteorological notions, etc...) and practical sessions in the simulator. Ideal for pilot seeds!
