The CYRANO is a former steam tug, 33.93 m long and 6.84 m wide, originally designed for inland navigation, so powerful that it was used to tow 800-tonne barges on the Rouen-Le Havre route. On January 28, 1944, the Cyrano hit a mine off Groix and sank within minutes to rest on a 16-18m seabed.
The SPERRBRECHER 134, 73 m long and 10 m wide, anchored off Port Tudy on August 8, 1944, awaiting orders to escort a U-boat, was attacked by British bombers. The Sperrbrecher was not hit directly, but the resulting shock waves and close-quarters explosions were enough to severely damage the ship. In less than 15 minutes, the ship was lying at a depth of between 20 and 23 m.
