Drawing workshop: learn and improve with a pro 🧑‍🎨

This artistic workshop will teach you to draw like a pro, covering notions of proportion, perspective, shading and shadow.

The different techniques for drawing on paper

There are many different drawing tools, each offering a different rendering. These include

Graphite pencil

This standard, versatile pencil is perfect for beginners. You can use it to create sketches, contrasts and shadows that will bring relief to your drawing.

Charcoal (pencil and stick)

Charcoal is a branch of willow or European charcoal charred in a closed vase. This easy-to-fade academic material is widely used in Beaux-Arts and academic drawing workshops.

It's an ideal tool for perfecting your drawing skills, whether you're using your finger to make a clean or blurred line. It is less precise than graphite pencil, and its weak hold requires a coarse-grained paper base.

Pastels

You'll find dry pastels based on chalk or plaster, and oil-based pastels. Here again, a coarse-grained paper base is recommended to fix the pigments.

Dry pastels can be applied to a cloth and then dabbed onto the paper, while oil pastels can be applied directly to the support in small, overlapping dots.

Sanguine

This earth-red pigment also comes in orange, ochre, brown and beige.

It can be used in pencil, chalk or dry pastel. It is particularly useful for nude drawings and for highlighting volumes in technical drawings.

Colored pencils

These are the pencils of choice for storyboards and comics.

You can choose between oil-based colored pencils for hatching, or wax-based pencils for shading.

Black stone

This is a dark, matte, black drawing tool made from ampelite. It can be used to blur lines, play with textures and shadows, while preserving the original strokes.

Funbooker workshops

If you're looking for a drawing workshop, here are a few ideas for Funbooker activities!

Combine drawing with a cultural visit

Opt for an outdoor drawing class to transcribe a city's landmarks onto paper.

Your instructor will guide you in the creation of your sketches, helping you to master perspective, relief and floral motifs.

You'll also hear anecdotes about the squares and historic monuments that face you.

Learn several drawing techniques in one class

During this drawing workshop, you'll gradually refine your pencil stroke.

Once you've drawn a sketch, you'll start creating art on an easel, just like a pro!
