Activity description :

Kintsugi is the art of repairing Japanese ceramics with a gold joint. Come and learn how to repair and enhance a broken object.

Course of the workshop (1h30):

  • Welcome, introduction to the workshop and choice of beverage (included).
  • Explanation of the origins of Kintsugi and its philosophy. You'll discuss the meaning of Kintsugi and your own life experiences or those of your broken parts.
  • Explanation of how the workshop works: the traditional Japanese method can't be used in just 2 hours, so you'll use resin glue and brass powder to give a shiny, golden appearance.
  • Object repair: a broken piece brought from home or provided by the workshop.
  • At the end of the workshop, you'll leave with your superb creation, upcycled and sublimated!

Whether for yourself or as a gift, this artisanal workshop is perfect if you love creative hobbies and crafts!

I left for a workshop in Kintsugi, a Japanese technique, I was expecting a place with a rather hushed welcome and broken Japanese-inspired crockery. In fact, we arrive in a café-workshop, the lower level of which is reserved for individuals or small groups of friends who have come to try their hand at pottery. A bit noisy, a bit of a mess! Nevertheless, the workshop takes place upstairs in a private room, but not really away from the hustle and bustle downstairs. The crockery provided, if you don't bring your own, is far from Japanese-inspired. It's a bit of a shame, given the context, atmosphere and rendering. The hostess's welcome was pleasant. After an explanation of this Japanese philosophy, she accompanies us to carry out our "Kintsugi repair". The explanation was present, but would benefit from a little more detail, if we were to leave with "our work" but a little more advanced knowledge. An hour and a half workshop without even a free glass of water! A bit of a shame, too. So there you have it, a workshop on the surface. A bit disappointing.
