Activity description :

Spend a morning discovering the trade of the miller during this 2-hour workshop, where you'll be able to make your own walnut oil.

Meet us in Neuvic, in the heart of the Périgord Blanc region, at the Moulin de la Veyssière. This water mill dates back to the 16th century, and is the last working oil mill in the Vern Valley. The mill has been passed down through the family for over 165 years.

Course of the activity (2h):

  • Visit of the mill, its history, its hydraulic operation and the importance of walnuts in Périgord.
  • You'll then learn how to carry out the three steps involved in oil production:
    • Crush the kernels using an authentic 500-year-old flint millstone.
    • Control the heating of the paste in a 16th-century cast-iron frying pan.
    • Pressing the paste in a 1950s press
  • You'll have the choice of leaving with your own bottle of freshly pressed 1 L oil, which will be delicious but still contain a few particles, or opting for oil that has already been decanted.

Enjoy unique, authentic know-how in the company of the mill's owners.
