Discover the secrets of Damascus steel with Jésus, a blacksmith and knife maker, and learn how to craft your own knife during a three-day workshop. You’ll explore the forging and knife-making techniques needed to transform several types of steel into a blade with unique patterns.

Workshop Schedule

• Days 1 and 2 – Making Damascus steel: Jésus will introduce youto safety guidelines, the machinery, and the various stages of production. You’ll prepare a laminate consisting of two types of steel, then learn techniques for heating, fire-welding with borax, pressing, and drawing. You’ll gradually work the metal before reassembling the laminate to create your Damascus steel.
• Day 3 – Knife Making: You’ll shape your blade by learning forging, grinding, and backstand techniques. You’ll continue with heat treatment, final grinding, and attaching the wooden scales to the handle.
• Finishing Touches: You’ll complete your knife with the final finishing, sharpening, and polishing steps, before testing the sharpness of your creation.

Throughout the workshop, Jésus will guide you through the various stages and teach you the technical skills specific to forging and artisanal cutlery making. You’ll leave with your Damascus steel knife, crafted with your own hands, as well as a deeper understanding of this demanding craft.
